Property Description
The Cannon tract is part of the Cane Savannah Plantation established by Matthew Singleton in 1756 as a gift from the state for his services during the Revolutionary War. Emma Lee and Dale Cannon are committed to preserving this land from the encroaching sprawl of nearby Shaw Air Force Base and Sumter. The land is home to numerous wildlife including quail, turkey, songbirds, foxes, deer and bobcats. There is an active trophy management program for the thriving deer population and a forestry program for the mature hardwoods and pine which could support red-cockaded woodpeckers. This land is open to students for educational purposes.
