Property Description
The goal of the project is to secure a conservation easement on the Newton Farm, protecting it from parcelization, intensive development, and uses that are incompatible with conservation. Protecting the Newton Farm advances the SC Conservation Bank's goals of protecting family farmland and 550 acres of prime agricultural soils for productivity and future use. In addition, the enhanced buffer along 1.6 miles on Reedy Creek and the limitation on impervious surfaces helps protect the water quality entering the creek. Protecting upstream water quality has positive effects downstream. Reedy Creek is a tributary of the Little Pee Dee River, a significant resource to the Pee Dee Watershed and the state.
