The subject property contains the Revolutionary War Hammonds Store Battlefield, part of the South Carolina Liberty Trail. On December 30, 1780, Patriot dragoons and mounted militia led by Lt. Colonel William Washington attacked and routed Loyalist troops attacking Patriot families in the backcountry villages of Winnsborough and Ninety Six. This significant battle was a precursor to the Battle of Cowpens which occurred 18 days later.
