Eastatoe Headwaters

Property Description
Eastatoe Headwaters

Eastatoe Headwaters is a 26.61-acre parcel at the northern end of the Eastatoe Valley located within Upstate Forever’s Lake Keowee Focus Area. The parcel is adjacent to the Jocassee Gorges managed by SCDNR, and near the Velburn Tract and Twin Falls Trail on Reedy Cove Creek, both protected by The Nature Conservancy. The Eastatoe Valley is a 2,500-acre high priority conservation area noted for Eastatoe Creek meandering through wide, flat farms and pastures cradled between Piney Mountain, High Knob, and Diana Mountain to the north, and Wadakoe, Howell, Horse Gap, and Sharp Top Mountains to the south. Due to its prominent east-west orientation and amphibolite geology, this quiet cove is also home to some uncommon plant species rarely found in other areas of the Upstate like whorled horsebalm, faded trillium, sharp-lobed hepatica, and plantain-leaved sedge. About a third of this property contains prime farmland soils contributing to the Eastatoee Community Farm, a small farm growing produce, mushrooms, and pastured meats without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, chemical dewormers, or antibiotics. The parcel includes a modern log house, two barns, an old garage, shed, pump house, and a farmhouse dating back to the 1920’s. Reserved rights are limited to continued agricultural activities, and removing, replacing, maintaining, or expanding existing structures.
