Black River State Park - RMS North

 Property Description
Black River State Park-RMS North

The 535-acre "RMS-North" project expands the SC Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism ("SCPRT") management unit on the scenic-designated Black River downstream of Kingstree in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. RMS-North has 2.1 miles of forested riparian buffer on the Black River opposite the SCCB-funded 1,279-acre "RMS-South" Tract and just downstream of the first Black River State Park property, "Hinds-Canada" (also SCCB funded). The current project preserves 310 acres of forested wetland and over 4000 linear feet on Boggy Swamp, a major tributary to the Black River, including the confluence point. The habitat and water quality benefits of these wetlands and riparian buffers benefit American Shad, Hickory Shad, and Blueback Herring; fish that have been documented instream as recently as 2021. SCPRT is primarily interested in the property as a sanctuary and scenic buffer area on the river to complement the park build out on the Hinds- Canada Tract.
