ACE Basin: St. Helena Estuary (Cummings) Ti Ti 2

Property Description
ACE Basin - St. Helena Estuary (Cummings) Ti Ti 2

This property represents Lowcountry natural habitat in the heart of the Ashepoo-Combahee-Edisto (ACE) Rivers Basin. The easement will guarantee the property is retained forever in its natural and scenic condition. This easement will protect water quality on the Ashepoo River by protecting a large wetland area with maritime forest uplands, a waterfowl impoundment, and brackish marsh. The property will remain undeveloped, protecting marsh migration corridors to help adapt to rising ocean levels and preserving marsh habitat, a globally imperiled habitat type. This property will fill a protection gap that will help maintain the unfragmented landscape of the ACE Basin and improve the quality of habitat on nearby public access conserved lands – such as the Donnelley Wildlife Management Area (WMA), Bear Island WMA, Edisto WMA, and the ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge. These protected areas contribute to the excellent bird habitat in the ACE Basin, which has been designated as a Globally Important Bird Area by the American Bird Conservancy.
