Slater Duck Ponds

 Property Description
Slater Duck Ponds

The 336-acre Slater Duck Ponds Tract is the second acquisition in the Southern Coastal Biodiversity Project (SCBP), a multi partner effort focused on the South Lowcountry Focus Area (SOLO). The protection of the property will add to and complement the 3,527-acre Slater Tract (“Slater”), the first SCBP acquisition. The property is a hotspot for biodiversity, with more than 68 Species of Greatest Conservation Need in the immediate area as identified in South Carolina’s State Wildlife Action Plan. Of these, 35 are identified by SEAFWA as Regional Species of Greatest Conservation Need. Protection of the property will conserve the function and value of approximately 206 acres of total wetlands and 105 acres of managed wildlife impoundments. The property will provide meaningful public recreational opportunities for hikers, hunters, bird watchers, and wildlife enthusiasts as well as be open for university research.
