Property Description
The Oaks Plantation permanently protects approximately 204 acres of maritime forest, mixed pine-hardwood forest, freshwater forested wetlands, and brackish marsh. This property provides important ecosystem services such as reducing storm surge impacts to downstream uplands; minimizing erosion and subsidence; supporting essential habitat for fisheries as well as threatened, endangered, and protected species; and providing research and recreational opportunities. The project considerably adds to the preservation and ecological integrity of the Ashley Scenic River, Ashley River Road Scenic Highway, and Ashley River Historic District (ARHD).
