Rocky Shoals Spider Lily Preserve is wrapped around by Stephens Creek, providing rare habitat for a spectacular population of Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies. The SC Native Plant Society has been working for years with the owners to protect this property. This is the largest unprotected population of this rare species in the State. The property is forests and river shoreline. The river itself is rocky and also habitat for a vigorous population of native mussels. There is an old grist mill on the site, which has been partially converted as a primitive weekend retreat, and a canal that fed water to the old turbine. The Society and Naturaland Trust will make the site available to general public access for activities consistent with the well being of the plant population and the location of the site adjacent to a major roadway. (plant viewing, fishing, canoeing, hiking on site, bird watching, etc.)
