Paul Sanders Tract

Property Description

St. Helena Island is one the few remaining regions in Beaufort County that still retainsPS it agricultural heritage and a prominent Gullah culture. The Sanders family has been farming for years as the soil here is among the finest in the state. The family farm is located near the PennCenter which is historically significant as the first school to be opened for newly freed slaves along the South Carolina coast after the Civil War. The Conservation Bank contributed funds along with the USDA's Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program and Beaufort County's Rural and Critical Lands Program to ensure the continuation of this farming community. Without assistance, this prime farmland would have been turned into prime real estate land.
