Oakland Club

Property DescriptionOakland

The Oakland Club Property presents a unique opportunity for the conservation community to protect an ecologically and culturally significant tract in the Santee River Focus Area. This property has frontage on approximately 10 miles of the high bluff of the Santee River Swamp, and contains thousands of acres of pine savannah, mature bottomland hardwood forest, and unique wetlands. Due to the landowners managing the property as an upland game hunting preserve and implementing a regular burn program on the pine savannah, they have developed some of the best habitat in the region for Bobwhite Quail and other upland game species. From a cultural standpoint, the property surrounds the burial ground of the Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion's gravesite, which is open to the general public.
