Deer Park lies within the more than 2 million acres for the South Lowcountry Focus Area featuring diverse ecosystems and a wealth of wildlife. This tract contains a diversity of relatively natural habitats including upland pine forest and forested wetlands in various stages of succession, and open fields, all of which can support a variety of floral and faunal species. These natural habitats are significant to wildlife habitat functions for migratory songbirds and ground-nesting birds, waterfowl and other avian species, game and non-game mammals of various sizes, as well as for amphibians and reptiles. Protection of Deer Park presents an opportunity to contribute to the protection of the downstream water quality for the benefit of the public.
